The Library provides access to many course-related Journal, eBook and Video Databases. Most of the resources contained in these databases are not freely available on the Internet. This guide provides instructions on how to add these resources to MyCanvas.

Things to note:

  • The steps for obtaining stable URLs (Permalinks) to use in MyCanvas will vary depending on the database and if you are on or off-campus.
  • Use the menu on the left to access instructions for finding Permalinks in the database in which your resource resides.
  • If you are off-campus, you will need to sign in with your 9-digit MohawkID in order to access database content. Note: Do not add @mohawkcollege to your MohawkID.
  • Database content is copyright-cleared. You do not need to contact the publisher to use it.
  • Many databases offer alternate formats (e.g. students can listen to articles) so linking to them can help students with different learning styles.
  • It is best practice to provide a full citation when linking to online material that takes a student outside of MyCanvas. Not only it is a requirement of our Copyright Policy, but links can break. If students have the citation, they can find the material another way.

Did You Know?

'Free' content from the Library collection can replace or complement the expensive materials students buy from publishers. The Library purchases authoritative and current resources to support academic research and learning in programs across Mohawk College. While not technically 'free', affordable course content (ACC), can remove the added stress on students to earn or spend the average $1000 a year required to purchase course materials.

Resources are not limited to readings but include videos and other media. Between Library resources and exploring OER (open educational resources), you can curate and even create relevant, engaging course resources that showcase your subject matter expertise without adding economic burden to students.

Connect with your Faculty Liaison Librarian to collaborate on saving your students' money and stress levels or to access the research on ACC | OER impact on student success and retention.
