Information You Need

To write a citation for a magazine article you will need the following pieces of information:

  • Author(s)
  • Date (Year, Month)
  • Article title
  • Magazine title (this is italicized)
  • Volume number (this is italicized)
  • Issue number 
  • Page numbers
  • DOI (an assigned alphanumeric sequence given to a journal article to help identify it).
    Not every work has a DOI. Please connect with your instructor about using a url link to content found on a library database and what is acceptable for the assignment.
  • URL (if from an online magazine and not from a database, see note above for database url)

Online from a magazine website:

Author's last name, First initial. (Year of publication, Month Day). Title of article. Title of Journal, volume(issue), page number. URL
Johnson, D. (2017, January 4). Ideology as a vocation. New Criterion, 3(49), 40-44. https://www.newcriterion.com

Online from a database with DOI:

Author's last name, First initial. (Year of publication, Month Day). Title of article. Title of Journal, volume(issue), page number. DOI
