PowerPoint: Record a Presentation: Video Narration (Windows & Mobile Devices)

Overview

The purpose of this guide is to support students who wish to add narration to a PowerPoint presentation. The focus is on video narration but students have the option of adding audio narration if they are using a Windows computer.

Record Slide Show Location

PowerPoint Recording Icons for sound, camera, and video preview.

  1. Click on the Slide Show Tab  and click on Record Slide Show to enter Recording Mode.
  2. Check that the Microphone, Camera and Video Preview are turned on by checking the icons in the bottom right.

The recording controls are located in the Top Left of recording mode.

  1. Select the RECORD button to being recording. It will give a 3 second countdown before the recording begins.
  2. Click the square STOP button or press S on your keyboard to stop recording.

Your video narration will be saved in the bottom right hand corner but you can move it after you have finished recording.

You can watch the video after recording to check for mistakes.

Replay Button PowerPoint

If you make a mistake during your recording, you can use the CLEAR button to redo a recording.

Click on CLEAR button to expand the menu and choose to clear current slide or all slides.

Warning: Clicking “Clear Recordings on All Slides” will remove EVERY slide recording you have done for the presentation.

Recordings are not recoverable, so be cautious when clearing recordings.

Video Narration Using a Mobile Device

Open your presentation from PowerPoint on your phone.

1. On your iPhone, tap the Edit icon.

2. Tap Home, and then tap Insert to see the Insert Menu Options.

3. On the Insert tab, tap Camera and then select video to start recording a video on your iPhone.

Tap to start recording, when you are finished, you can choose Use Video or Retake. To record yourself speaking on each slide, have your PowerPoint open on another device or a printed copy in front of you. 

After inserting your video, you will have to resize it by dragging one corner.

1. On your Android phone, tap the Edit icon android edit button.

2. Tap Home to see the options for the menu, and then tap Insert:

3. On the Insert menu, tap Pictures:

4. In the Pictures menu, Tap Camera.

5. From the camera option on your phone, record a video and insert it in the slide.

Tap to start recording, when you are finished, you can choose Use Video or Retake. To record yourself speaking on each slide, have your PowerPoint open on another device or a printed copy in front of you. 

After inserting your video, you will have to resize it by dragging one corner.
