MyCanvas: Getting Started

What is MyCanvas?

MyCanvas is the name of the new Learning Management System (LMS) at Mohawk College.  Based on Canvas by Instructure, the new LMS includes features that make it smoother to learn and collaborate in an online environment.

Log in with your Mohawk ID (9 digits) and password.

Computer System Requirements

Desktop and Laptop Computers

MyCanvas has a set of basic computer system requirements. Making sure that you have the most up-to-date versions allows MyCanvas to run quickly and smoothly. 

Operating Systems

  • Windows 7 or newer
  • Mac OSX 10.10 or newer
  • ChromeOS
  • Linux

Canvas Mobile App

Canvas mobile appThe Canvas Student App is the mobile version of Canvas that helps you stay current with your courses anywhere. Download the Canvas Student app on Android and iOS devices.

NOTE: Only students with an active MyCanvas account will be able access Passport to MyCanvas. 

Which Internet Browser Should I Use?

The latest versions of Firefox, Chrome, and Safari are all good choices for working in Canvas. 

Download the most recent versions of these browsers or update your installed versions:

It's a good idea to have more than one browser installed on your personal computer. Many times, problems you experience online can be fixed by switching from one browser to another.

Mobile Device Browsers

MyCanvas is not optimized for use with a browser on a mobile device. Download and use the Canvas Mobile App on Android or iOS devices.


MyCanvas has a built-in webReader called ReadSpeaker, to make MyCanvas more accessible. You can access it from the Global Navigation by clicking on the ReadSpeaker activation tab. It has many options that you can take advantage of, including:

  • multiple languages and multiple voices per language
  • customization of the reading area, order and speed
  • text highlighting
  • customization of font size, color and type
  • enhanced text visibility
  • pronunciation dictionary
  • mp3 downloading of course content
  • word lookup and translation

Printing in MyCanvas


To print any of the course materials, you will need to download any Microsoft Office or Adobe PDF documents first, then open the file from your computer to print.
