Digital Posters & Infographics: Getting Started

Research Posters

Posters are an effective way of sharing your research, usually presented at professional conferences, local research events, or educational events. Research posters allow you to communicate information about your work in a concise and visual manner, and engage with viewers in an informal setting.  They provide an opportunity for you to share your research, engage your audience, stay up-to-date on developments in your field, and network with experts.

Your poster should be a visual aid to a story you tell about your research.

A typical poster contains the same information as a research paper, but modified for viewing quickly. A poster will have:

  • less text
  • shorter sentences, more use of bullets
  • visual aids such as images, icons or charts
  • references (even if it's a small font)

Infographics are visual representations of information, data or knowledge intended to present information quickly and clearly (Source: Wikipedia). They catch the eye and they can publicize a great deal of information in a short space of time.
